What format are Magic Story books?
Updated October 8, 2026 · 2 min read
Hardcover is the standard format for new customers. Some older subscribers may also see a softcover option. Check the product page and order summary for the format you are buying, along with the size, page count, and personalization available for that title.
Can I look inside before ordering?
On a book's product page, look for the story preview to see its artwork and sample pages. The sample character is there to show the story. Your personalized preview is created separately after you add your child's photo and details.
See what the free preview includes before placing your order. Check the child's name, selected character, and any companion details carefully.
When is my copy printed?
Each copy is prepared after you order. Printed on demand through our fulfillment partners. Printing for US orders usually takes 3 to 5 business days before shipping.
Printing time is part of the overall delivery estimate. See how long your book takes to arrive for the difference between printing and transit.
Can I choose softcover?
When you buy a single book, the format selector is available for eligible existing softcover subscribers on supported titles. Format choices can differ by title, so check the options shown on the book's product page.
For a Magic Story+ subscription billed on magicstory.com, the Book format row on the subscription page in Subscriptions shows your current format. Active subscriptions with printed books can switch future books between hardcover and softcover there. See how to switch between hardcover and softcover.
What if the printed book has a problem?
A damaged cover, missing page, or printing error needs a closer look. See how to report a problem with your book for the details and photos to send us.
