The difference that matters: their face
Hooray Heroes and Wonderbly answer "will it look like my child?" the same way: you choose features from a menu, and the illustrated character is set to match. It can share your child's hair and skin tone, but it isn't drawn from their face. On some titles Wonderbly prints a photo you upload in the book, but the story's hero stays the character you built.
Magic Story starts from your photo. We use AI to turn it into your child's illustrated character, who appears throughout the story with their name in the text.
Why parents choose Magic Story

Wonderbly in brief
You build your child's character from hair and skin tone options, add a name and a dedication, and on some titles upload a photo that's printed in the book. Its titles started from about $35 on November 5, 2026. The hero is the character you built, not a likeness drawn from your child's photo.
Hooray Heroes in brief
You build the character from options such as hair, skin tone and eyes, and its books can include up to five children or a pet. On November 5, 2026 its softcovers were on sale from about $30, with hardcovers about $10 more. We found no option to upload a photo to create the character.
What about siblings?
Hooray Heroes and Wonderbly make books where several children share one story. With Magic Story, every child gets to be the star of their own book, drawn from their own photo, so a big sister and a little brother each get a book that's all about them. Some titles, such as I Love You Dad, add a parent, grandparent or pet alongside your child. Our Help article on books for siblings explains the options.

Questions parents ask
What is the difference between Hooray Heroes and Wonderbly?
Both have you build your child's character from options such as hair and skin tone, and both let you preview the book before you buy. Hooray Heroes offers books for two to five children and books with a pet; Wonderbly offers softcover, hardcover and, on some titles, layflat, and can print a photo you upload in the book. Neither draws the hero from your child's photo. Magic Story publishes this comparison, checked on both companies' sites on November 5, 2026.
Do Hooray Heroes or Wonderbly use my child's photo for the illustrations?
No. Both build the illustrated character from options you choose. Wonderbly can print a photo you upload in some titles, but the hero is still the character you built. If you want the hero drawn from your child's photo, Magic Story does that from one photo.
Is there a personalized book that looks like my actual child?
Yes. Magic Story uses AI to turn one photo into your child's illustrated hero, who appears throughout the story with their name in the text. You see a free personalized preview of your child before you pay, and if the character doesn't look right, you can choose Try Again or New Photo.
Which is better for siblings?
Hooray Heroes has books for two to five children, and Wonderbly's That's MY Cake! takes two to four. With Magic Story, every child gets to be the star of their own book, drawn from their own photo, and some titles add a parent, grandparent or pet alongside your child.
What happens to the photo I upload to Magic Story?
Our privacy policy says we do not save the original photo you upload. We save the illustrated avatar created from it so you can personalize your stories, and we do not use customer data, including uploaded photos and generated avatars, to train AI models.
Which one arrives in time for Christmas?
For Magic Story US delivery by Christmas Eve 2026, order by December 10 with Standard shipping or December 14 with Expedited; for the Six Days Until Christmas set, order by December 4 or December 8.
