How do I fix my child's character if it does not look right?

If the character preview does not look like your child, use Try Again to generate another result or New Photo to start with a different picture. For a hero you have already saved, open Characters, tap the hero, and choose Change look.

Are you still creating the character?

1. Check the photo and details

   Make sure the face is clear, the photo contains only your child, and any details you entered are correct. Our photo tips explain what works best.

2. Try another result

   Choose Try Again beside the character preview when that option is available. Wait for the new image before deciding whether to keep it.

3. Change the photo if needed

   Choose New Photo if the face is obscured, turned away, or still difficult to recognize. A clearer reference can help more than repeatedly using the same picture.

If an error message asks for a different photo, use that option. If it describes a temporary problem and offers a retry, follow that instruction instead.

How do I change a saved hero's look?

Use Change look for changes such as new hair, different clothes, or glasses. Your child's current look stays until you save a new one.

1. Open Change look

   Open Characters, tap your child's hero, and choose Change look. You can also choose Change look next to the hero on a Magic Story+ subscription page.

2. Pick what to change

   Under "What should we change?", tap up to 3 changes from groups such as Hair, Outfit, Face, and Extras. Or choose Or describe it in your own words and type the change, for example "give them a green dinosaur hoodie."

3. Preview the new look

   Select Preview new look and wait while we draw it. This can take a moment. To see the difference, press and hold the picture to compare it with the saved look.

4. Keep the look you like

   Select Use this look to save it. New books and previews will use it.

You can keep up to 4 looks for each hero and switch between them. When all 4 are saved, choose a look you don't need and delete it to make room for a new one.

When should I use a new photo instead?

Choose Use a new photo when the face itself does not look like your child. Read the confirmation carefully: we draw your child again from the new photo, and any saved looks are replaced. Select Replace photo to continue.

If you want a separate character instead, such as a sibling, use Add a hero on the Characters page.

Will this change a book I already ordered?

Changing the hero will not change a book already sent to print. If the problem affects an order you have placed, contact us (opens in a new tab) with your order number and a description of what looks wrong.

For a hero used by Magic Story+, a new look can affect future books. Check your next shipment in Subscriptions if it is already being prepared.
