The lamp is down to its lowest setting. Pajamas are on, most of the day's arguments are behind you, and the book open on the blanket has your child's name in it. Before there were oceans or stars, it tells them, God was already dreaming them up.

That idea sits at the heart of the first book in the Theo Collection, twelve personalized Christian books from Magic Story. Each one places your child inside a story, prayer or bedtime blessing about belonging to God, and each one paints them in the collection's own gouache storybook style. The collection is available now, one book at a time or as a monthly journey with Magic Story+.

Prayers, meditations and stories, with your child in every one

Theo is not a children's Bible, and it does not try to be one. Some books are guided prayers that speak directly to your child. Others are stories set in a lunchroom, on a beach or in a grandmother's garden. Scripture appears in Proverbs 6:6 in The Wisdom of the Ant and Psalm 23 in The Psalm of the Good Shepherd. The collection also retells the familiar Footprints parable.

A few of the twelve, up close:

God Dreamed You Up, Then Created You. A gentle blessing for the end of the day. Your child hears that God made them on purpose, smile, tears and all. Then the book invites them to tell God how today really felt.

Cookies. At lunch, your child is certain the new student has taken their cookies, and anger rolls in like a storm. Instead of shouting, they stop and pray: "Dear Jesus, what would You do?" Then their own baggie of cookies turns up. The new student never took them. An apology follows, then a shared snack and a new friend. The story lets a big feeling be big, then shows what to reach for first.

The Tickles of God. Under a lemon tree, your child asks Grandma why people laugh. She tells how the very first smile tickled God's heart, and laughter began. Your child sets off with drawings, jokes and cookies, asking, "Who else needs a laugh today?" It is a lovely one for a grandparent to read aloud.

When You Only See Footprints. In a dream, your child walks a sunset beach beside Jesus while scenes from their life play across the sky: birthdays, happy school days, and sick days too. Where only one set of footprints appears, a gentle voice explains, "I was carrying you in my arms." Keep this one close for a hard season.

The Wisdom of the Ant. School feels boring and getting started is hard. Dad points to the ant, which plans ahead and works with its team. It is a cheerful, everyday way into Proverbs 6:6.

The Psalm of the Good Shepherd. A slow, calming meditation. It meets David first as a young shepherd with a slingshot, then as a king, before settling into Psalm 23 and a closing prayer.

The 12-book journey, in order

The track opens with being dreamed up and named, moves through purpose, prayer, joy, trust, choices, gratitude and kindness, and closes with the Good Shepherd.

  1. God Dreamed You Up, Then Created You
  2. God Called Me By My Name: God speaks your child's name softly, like a lullaby.
  3. Why Am I Here?: Jesus sits on the edge of the bed, and your child writes down their purpose.
  4. A Few Minutes With Jesus: a guided prayer with no complicated words, including prayers for people by name.
  5. The Tickles of God
  6. When You Only See Footprints
  7. Making Good Decisions: free will as a gift, and King Solomon asking for wisdom.
  8. The Wisdom of the Ant
  9. The Day You Got Rich: a day at Mr. Peter's farm, a clear creek, and a new idea of what being rich means.
  10. Your Life Has An Echo: a shout across a valley, and the kindness that comes back.
  11. Cookies
  12. The Psalm of the Good Shepherd

Why a monthly book suits faith at home

Many families already have a bedtime prayer or a grace before dinner. A new Theo book each month gives that routine a fresh place to start: a new question, a new scene, and the same name on the cover. Month by month, your child builds a small shelf of books that speak to them by name.

The questions can stay simple. Who would you like to pray for tonight? Who could use a laugh today? What are some things we have that money cannot buy? On nights when nobody has the energy for a conversation, just read. The questions will keep.

How the Theo journey works with Magic Story+

Magic Story+ is a monthly membership, and Theo is a series track inside it.

  • Price. In the US, the membership is $24.99 a month plus shipping and tax, compared with $44.99 for a one-time hardcover. That is $20.00 less per book.
  • One Theo book at a time. Each month brings the next Theo book your child has not received yet, in the order above.
  • Room to change course. In your account, the Theo books are listed first when you choose a different story. Picking another title is a one-time swap, and Theo picks back up afterward. You can also switch to a standard subscription and rejoin later.
  • Flexible timing. Skip a month, pause for one, two or three months, or have books arrive every one, two or three months. Changing how often books arrive does not change your price or your place in the series.
  • After book twelve. Your membership continues with more personalized stories from the wider library until you cancel.
  • No long-term contract. Cancel at any time from your account, at least 24 hours before your renewal date.

Questions parents ask

Is the Theo Collection a children's Bible?

No. The twelve books mix guided bedtime prayers, quiet meditations and stories. Some draw directly on Scripture, such as Proverbs 6:6 in The Wisdom of the Ant and Psalm 23 in The Psalm of the Good Shepherd, and one retells the Footprints parable. Others are original stories about prayer, gratitude and kindness in a child's everyday life.

What happens after all 12 Theo books?

Your Magic Story+ membership keeps going with more personalized stories from the wider Magic Story library until you cancel. You can skip, pause or choose your next book from your account, and you can cancel at any time at least 24 hours before your renewal date.

Can I buy just one Theo book?

Yes. Each of the twelve titles is available as a one-time personalized hardcover. Shipping and tax are additional in the US. Prices can differ by shopping country, so check the product page for your own total.

Will the Theo books fit our church tradition?

The collection presents itself as Christian and does not name a denomination. The books include prayers to Jesus, Scripture passages and a saying of St. Augustine. Read the book descriptions and make a free preview to see whether the language suits your family's practice.
